Direct is a widely used healthcare protocol for secure, verified data transmission. It shares some similarities with email and is quickly replacing mailing and faxing of patient records.
Combines ease of email with an added layer of security and identity verification
Routing of messages is handled through SMTP
Confidentiality and integrity of the content are handled through S/MIME encryption and signatures
Content is packaged using MIME and, optionally, XDM
Authenticity of the Sender and Receiver is established with X.509 digital certificates
Dynamic Health IT has partnered with MaxMD to provide certification and complete turnkey solutions
Your EHR will need Direct Protocol 170.315(h)(1) OR 170.315(h)(2) capabilities & a HISP in order to certify Direct under 2015 Edition. You can also use direct to meet the 2015 Transition of Care measure 170.315(b)(1).
MaxMD is certified for both 170.315(h)(1) and 170.315(h)(2) and its functionality covers the “Applicability Statement for Secure Health Transport, Version 1.2”.
